On Completion of Constraint Handling Rules

چکیده
Constraint Handling Rules (CHR) is a high-level language for writing constraint solvers either from scratch or by modifying existing solvers. An important property of any constraint solver is connuence: The result of a computation should be independent from the order in which constraints arrive and in which rules are applied. In previous work 1], a suucient and necessary condition for the connuence of terminating CHR programs was given by adapting and extending results about conditional term rewriting systems. In this paper we investigate so-called completion methods that make a non-connuent CHR program connuent by adding new rules. As it turns out, completion can also exhibit inconsistency of a CHR program. Moreover, as shown in this paper, completion can be used to deene new constraints in terms of already existing constraints and to derive constraint solvers for them.

Integration and Optimization of Rule-Based Constraint Solvers
One lesson learned from practical constraint solving applications is that constraints are often heterogeneous. Solving such constraints requires a collaboration of constraint solvers. In this paper, we introduce a methodology for the tight integration of CHR constraint programs into one such program. CHR is a high-level rule-based language for writing constraint solvers and reasoning systems. A...

This book contains the Proceedings of CHR 2005, the Second Workshop on Constraint Handling Rules, held at the occasion of ICLP 2005 in Sitges (Spain) on October 5, 2005. The Constraint Handling Rules (CHR) language has become a major declarative specification and implementation language for constraint reasoning algorithms and applications. Algorithms are often specified using inference rules, r...
متن کاملSEQUENTIAL PENALTY HANDLING TECHNIQUES FOR SIZING DESIGN OF PIN-JOINTED STRUCTURES BY OBSERVER-TEACHER-LEARNER-BASED OPTIMIZATION
Despite comprehensive literature works on developing fitness-based optimization algorithms, their performance is yet challenged by constraint handling in various engineering tasks. The present study, concerns the widely-used external penalty technique for sizing design of pin-jointed structures. Observer-teacher-learner-based optimization is employed here since previously addressed by a number ...
متن کاملProgramming in Constraint Handling Rules
Constraint Handling Rules (CHR) is a concurrent committedchoice constraint programming language, developed in the 1990s for the implementation of constraint solvers. It is traditionally an extension to other programming languages – especially constraint logic programming languages – but has been used increasingly as a general-purpose programming language in the recent past. With CHR, one can sp...
